Vickie Johnson Returns for her 13th Season in the WNBA
Coach Dan Hughes announced today that Vickie Johnson will return to San Antonio for the 2009 season. A key player for the Silver Stars, starting 32 games in 2008, it’s good to hear she’ll be back to help us win the championship.
“We are thrilled to begin our 2009 signings with Vickie,” said Hughes. “Her play has been an inspiration to this organization and her leadership has been special. V.J.’s versatility on the basketball court is an amazing thing to watch, and we join in with our fans in celebrating another year with her.”
The 36-year-old Johnson is the only player in WNBA history to have tallied more than 4,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists in her career. The league’s reigning “Iron Woman,” Johnson has played 378 career games and 11,698 career minutes, more than any other player in the history of the WNBA. She ranks eighth all-time in points (4,039), sixth in assists (1,128) and 17th in rebounds (1,533).
